About us
Falun Chamber Choir is an independent choir with a broad repertoire. Everything from swedish choral settings to classic sacred works but also folk music, opera and jazz. We have cooperated with the best Swedish jazz musicians, singers and conductors as well as professional Swedish and foreign orchestras.
Our history Falun Chamber Choir was formed by a number of singers from Falun and Borlänge in 1984. Anders Hagegård who then was and still is a teacher at the Music Conservatory of Falun was engaged as conductor and artistc leader of the choir. Falun Chamber Choir developed into a competent and versatile ensemble during the careful and capable ten year long leadership of Anders. Traditional Swedish choral settings had a natural part of the repertoire but additions were made of music ranging from musical and opera (Abba's Chess and Mascagni's Cavelleria Rusticana) via gospel and African folkmusic to jazz and classical sacred works (such as Ellington's Sacred Concert and Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem). Unusual baltic additions to the repertoire were made during an exchange with a lithuanian choir during the early 90's. When Anders Hagegård decided to leave of the choir Anders Lindström took over the leadership for shorter periods for a number of years. Anders Lindström is a well known introducer of English choral tradition in Sweden and this obviously had an effect on the repertoire with music of Purcell, Byrd and Britten and, of course, christmas carols. The latter resulted in the recording of a CD - Carols in Yuletide. Anders Lindström also has a keen interest in Swedish folkmusic, which led to cooperation with well known Swedish fiddlers and innovative performances of traditional hymns and songs. Inga Widell who was appointed musical director at the Stora Tuna church during the late 90's led the choir for a short period. With Inga the choir made a very appreciated program with choral settings of poems by swedish Nobel prize laurate Erik Axel Karlfeldt. Jonas Pehrs, who is the musical director in the Sundborn church, became the conductor and artistic leader of Falun Chamber Choir in 2000. Jonas extended the English repertoire of the choir with several peformances of Britten's Ceremony of Carols. He also conducted the choir in concerts together with well-known Swedish poet Birgitta Lillpers. In January 2004 Tony Margeta was appointed conductor and artistic leader of Falun Chamber Choir. With enthusiasm, energy, musical inventiveness and skills Tony meant a new start for the choir. He has a big part in the fact that the choir lately has attracted a new and bigger audience. The expressions of the choir have been extended with improvisations and even learning repertoire by heart. Additions to the repertoire has been made from all times and formats e.g. 20th century musical and jazz, renaissance polyphony, 19th century romantic music and English baroque. In April 2006 Falun Chamber Choir entered their first ever choral competetition and won two Gold Diplomas and a Special Prize in the 9th International Choral Competition in Riva del Garda Italy.

Our activities Normally we do at least two productions per year. In addition to this we usually cooperate in productions with orchestras, singers and other choirs. During summertime we do smaller performances in the summer music programmes that are arranged in many churches around Dalecarlia.
